Introduction to the AWS Cloud

What is the cloud?

The cloud for most people is just a place of online storage, content streaming and online applications. For business this definition changes as a platform and infrastructure placed in a remote location.

Now to the more specific question: what a cloud in the context of AWS is. To answer that question, as the figure shows AWS provides IT resources and applications over the internet. Amazon Web Services is a subsidiary of Amazon that provides on-demand cloud computing platforms and APIs to individuals, companies, and governments, on a metered pay-as-you-go basis.

AWS owns and maintains network-connected hardware. We can provision and use what you need the resources provided as and when required and can be optimized as the requirements change. These resources are nothing but data centers that have already been present on premises for decades. AWS makes all these resources remote and thus eliminates their maintenance and management of the resources. This eliminates the drawbacks of an on-premises infrastructure. It also rescues the manpower involved and requires other resources involved in their functioning.

Benefits of AWS cloud

AWS eliminates the risks and uncertainties of forecasting. As humans we tend to over anticipate while allocating resources for future use. This results in under-utilization of resources and results in them lying unused for most of the time. This in turn causes financial losses. Short term planning while allocating any of the resources results in underestimating and burning out of the allocated resources. Both scenarios are overcome by AWS with the help of scaling on demand. We can provision what we need and when we need it and pay only for what we use. The graph below explains how this can optimize our spending resulting in optimal utilization of resources. These changes almost happen real-time as the traffic or requirements change.

Not all businesses or projects can afford to invest in unproven technologies and ventures which may not be of the value that they invest. These resources could be better diverted to other services. Also, the payment for all the resources is in line with their use which ensures complete value for money. AWS priorities security of all the data stored. The AWS infrastructure is built to satisfy the requirements of the most security-sensitive organizations around the world.

We at Accrevent Solutions, have delivered complex solutions for migrating as well as setting up new data lakes on AWS cloud. The company focuses on customer needs and provides curated solutions with data security at the forefront. The experienced team has implemented solutions with a detailed roadmaps and milestones in conjunction with periodical customer feedback.
